Acclaim for Pugsley

Ratings

Vintage 2014:
  • 90-92+ - Robert Parker, Jr.: The Wine Advocate, #228 - 12-30-16

Another mineral-dominated Syrah from Atlas Peak, the 2014 Syrah Pugsley shows an inky/purple color, loads of crushed/powdered stone and floral notes, but also copious quantities of blackberry and blueberry fruit.

It is a deep, rich, full-bodied and multidimensional wine that should drink well for 10-15 years. It ideally needs several years of bottle age to round into form.

Opaque black violet color. Delicate, roasted aromas of roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate drizzled on berries, and moss and leaves with a supple, lively, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a warming, complex, medium-long coffee grounds, parchment, marinated mushroom, and cedar dust finish with dusty, grippy tannins and moderate oak. A dry, earthy syrah for the table.
